It’s a wrap! Been there, done that… The 2.4mR Dutch Open Championship 2018 has been sailed and we can truthfully say it’s been a huge success. Thanks to an international fleet of accomplished 2.4mR sailors from four countries—including no less than one Olympic Silver and Bronze Medalist and two World Champions—, a host of volunteers, officials, fans, sponsors and many, many Koenen club members, it was a memorable event all around.

The Red Pennant awarded by the Royal Netherlands Watersport Association to the winner of an Open Class Championship was won by Megan Pascoe—a 2.4mR European and World Champion—with 5 wins in 10 races. Silver was won by Eberhard Bieberitz (right), a Finn Master World Champion, and bronze by Jan ten Hoeve. And worth mentioning: fourth place was taken by Olympic Silver and Bronze Medalist (in the Flying Dutchman) Ullrich “Ulli” Libor!

WV De Koenen is very proud of its two club members in the top ten: Dirk Jan Broertjes (5) and Sven Oosterbaan (7).

Amsterdam based WV De Koenen on the shore of lake Nieuwe Meer was founded in 1933 by sailing enthusiasts who wanted to organise their own regattas. Since then the Club caters to the needs of various boating aficionados: members with sloops, powerboats and sailing boats alike. It is also home to a large youth community taking lessons and sailing in Optimist, Cadet and Laser.

The “Sailing For Everyone” philosophy has been wholeheartedly adopted by WV De Koenen and we hope for the return of sailing as a discipline at the next Paralympic Games (Back the Bid).  Therefore WV De Koenen—together with Sailability—maintains a fleet of Hansa dinghies and 2.4mR’s. It may be clear that we offer dedicated facilities ranging from ramps and cranes to a wheelchair friendly shower room.
